about

Melodic indie-rock with expansive lyrics guided by strong female vocals. all proceeds go to UK mental health charities.

Blue Generation formed in 2001 in Blackpool, Lancashire. Carl Bailey, Dave Clayton and Graham Clayton formed the idea of their band after their recent discovery of guitar bands such as Manic Street Preachers and Radiohead. James Hyde soon joined the group and began teaching guitar to Graham and Dave while Carl taught himself on drums. With Carl as lead lyricist and James writing the music, the Blue Generation sound started to develop through countless living room and garage based rehearsals.

In 2003, Debbie Gregson joined the band as the vocalist they had been looking for as the band recorded their first original demos and played their first gigs before departures for University started to hamper their progress. However two more sets of demos and many more gigs followed over the next three years until the hard decision to suspend activities in 2006.

Carl and James had always promised to one day finish the Blue Generation album as intended but Carl lost his battle with depression in 2013. Over the next four years James worked to deliver on the promise and in 2017 the album had finally been completed. The result is a melodic, guitar-led album fronted by the same powerful female vocals that originally defined them.

lyrics

I felt lost amidst the crowds,
Breathe in the sweat,
Breathe in the sterility,
You might know me but there’s no-one I know near me,

Alone, I stood still,
Unable to close my eyes,
I stood still, and I stood sober,
The Tabloid music swallowed with pride,
Thank you for making me feel superior for the first time in my life,

I see you glazed with the good times,
Then I see you torn apart by its lies,
I see you swollen with conceit,
Then I see you destroyed by their deceit.
I see you, I see you,
I see you and I see you,
I see you and then you see me,
And we just start all over again,

The only thing we seem to live for,
And without it we feel nothing,
The hardest thing to speak of,
Wasting days trying to think of something,

I won’t complicate us,
My silence is only for the best,
I don’t want to destroy us,
I’ll just hide them with all the rest.

Drink to get away from who you are and how you feel,
Roll on 2am and it’s just the same, but all the more real,

I see you glazed with the good times,
Then I see you torn apart by its lies,
I see you swollen with conceit,
Then I see you destroyed by their deceit,
I see you and I see you,
I see you and I see you,
I see you and then you see me,
And you just start all over again.
